New student pilot membership forms - reminder to instructors

Compulsory use of STUDENT MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION/TEMPORARY PILOT CERTIFICATE: STUDENT

Instructors, you are reminded that ALL new student pilots beginning training MUST have completed a STUDENT MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION/TEMPORARY PILOT CERTIFICATE: STUDENT (OPMF01) and the bottom half of the form must be sent without delay to the NZHGPA Administrator to be recorded.
If at the time of application the student pilot elects to apply for Full Pilot Membership to the NZHGPA they don’t have to pay the student fee, but they still have to complete the student form and return the bottom half to the NZHGPA office.

The Student Membership Application/Temp Pilot Certificate fulfils two important functions required by the CAA:
1) it provides a temporary pilot certificate that allows the student to legally operate a hang glider or paraglider, under appropriate supervision.
2) when the student fee is paid it also provides temporary membership to the NZHGPA.

Regarding alternative NZHGPA membership options for student pilots - student pilots can be offered the option of immediately joining up to the NZHGPA as a full Pilot Member (using the newly updated New Pilot Membership Application OPMF_00) - but they MUST also complete one of the pre-authorised student forms.

If joining as a full pilot member from the beginning of their training, the student applicant need only pay the relevant full member fees. In this scenario the student pilot should complete forms OPMF00, OPMF01 and the FPP form, of which OPMF00, the FPP form and the bottom half of OPMF01 must be sent together to the Administrator.

Please note that the NEW PILOT MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION (OPMF00) has been updated. Please use the new version which can be downloaded from the NZHGPA web site, or paper copies can be requested from the Administrator.
