A letter we received from Rex Kenny of CAA:
23 February 2012
Possible Adventure Aviation Participant
Dear Sir / Madam
Part 115 Adventure Aviation – Certification
I am writing to all companies, organisations and individuals who I believe may be intending to certificate their operation under the subject rule part.
Those of you that attended the CAA Part 115 Road shows will know that it is vital that certification is completed by the published transition date applicable to your sector. For parachuting, hang gliders / paragliders and balloon operations carrying passengers for hire or reward the date is 1 May 2012.
As 1 March approaches only four applications have been received. It is clear more are nearing completion but it is also clear that many who require certification may not appreciate that the deadline cannot be extended and that a logjam close to the transition close off date will result in disappointment for some applicants whose operations will be grounded by the lack of certification.
On this basis I congratulate you if your organisation is about to submit the required application and take the opportunity to remind those that may have overlooked the looming deadline or have not appreciated the seriousness of a late application that applications that are not received within the next few weeks will result in a logjam I am trying to avoid.
Yours faithfully
Rex M Kenny
