Why join the NZHGPA

  • Civil Aviation Authority rule Part 106 requires that hang glider and paraglider pilots
be a bona fide member of a hang gliding organisation (the NZHGPA) to fly legally
in New Zealand. New Zealand residents must also be a members of a local club.
Please note that affiliated clubs and the NZHGPA have the right to refuse membership.

  • The NZHGPA sets the standards for training and safety that allows for paragliding
and hang gliding to be carried out under CAA regulations in New Zealand.

  • Membership of the NZHGPA provides $2,000,000 public liability insurance
to pilots (there is an excess on our policy).

  • NZHGPA members receive six issues per year of the NZHGPA magazine Airborn.
Airborn contains safety bulletins, competition results and contact details
for local clubs as well as instructional and entertaining photos
    and articles on flying.
